Not only is the 200 series great for beginner’s, it is affordable. Targeted at the budget conscious buyer, the Nuvi 250 lacks all the slick bells and whistles, but it performs best at what it should – navigation. After all, that is what a global positioning system was intended to do. Some of the common specifications of the Garmin Nuvi 250 GPS are:
Pre-loaded NAVTEQ maps for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. 3.5″ color touch display Turn-by-turn instructions Approximately 6 million Points of Interest Photo viewer Calculator World clock Currency and Unit converter
Here are some features that you might want, but the Garmin Nuvi 250 lacks:
Text to Speech Bluetooth Traffic Updates MP3 Player Headphone or Audio outlet
Here is what comes in the box when you buy the 250:
Nuvi 250 Windshield suction cup 12V cigarette lighter power adapter Dashboard disk for mounting Setup Guide
There are two main groups that provide mapping data: NAVTEQ and TeleAtlas. Fortunately for Nuvi fans, NAVTEQ is far superior to TeleAtlas. The bad news is that Garmin does not offer free map updates to its buyers. You will likely have to shell out over $100 to get a current map update for your GPS unit.
The routing engine in the Garmin Nuvi 250 GPS is also very solid. The routing engine is what helps make decisions in the route that it suggests to get from one point to another. This Garmin unit tested better than the TomTom ONE and the Magellan Maestro. This coupled with the excellent NAVTEQ mapping data provides a very solid performer at navigation tasks. Let’s also not forget the best part of the Nuvi 250 and that is its unrivaled ease of use. Your tech-challenged grandmother should be able to operate this GPS unit.

I got a Garmin for christmas from my wife. Coincidentally I got a Garmin for her too. We do not need 2 of them, and we are debating on which one to keep. Which one is better? The 255 or the 350?
Great minds think alike, but you didn't say who got which model :)
Keep the 255. It's a newer model, and it comes with a bunch of improvements. I think that the 2 biggest improvements are:
The first is what they call "HotFix"
I'm new to running on a track, but I just joined this running club and bought a Garmin Forerunner 305 to measure performance. It seems pretty complicated and I'm not sure how to best use it to make sure my laps are on pace. Any advice?
i would call the company as they are very confusing instruments.
Navtrak, a provider of GPS-based fleet tracking software, is planning to use Garmin, a developer of consumer, aviation, and marine technologies, portable navigation devices to provide real-time vehicle tracking and fleet management solutions for companies with mobile workers.
According to the company, features exclusive to Navtrak's Adobe Flex-based fleet tracking and management software include Send to Garmin, Real-Time ETA, Click and Create Jobs, and Job Status.
Navtrak's navigation and job scheduling features reportedly enable Garmin's commercial fleet customers, including delivery vans, over-the-road trucks, taxi cabs and other fleet vehicles.
Ron Hodges, CEO of Navtrak, said: "We believe that utilizing Garmin devices is a fantastic opportunity for us to implement some cutting-edge ideas. We did not want to be just another integration vendor on their list. Our customers demand innovation from us, and we think the advanced functionality Navtrak brings to Garmin's fleet management interface is very compelling."
I listened to the radio this morning, Google Maps now has a choice of bike route maps. This sounds cool, I have been with their general impression, or even in transit, as well as surveying and mapping engineering cartography here pairs of cities, tell your car when you need to reach the next position. This will be an exaggeration to say that I immediately jumped out of bed to a bike route try, but once I slide from my rest sluglike and this morning I completed my meticulous grooming to give it a common destination, I am on the Church and the rooms, home. This is one of about 14 miles way, across the Mississippi River and bicycles can involve a few specific shortcut or route choice. How will Google do? Google is also quite good. From the northern Lake Como St. Paul is only the East Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, it has chosen this route, while using the Intercampus Transitway and the city center green channel....
The NTSB came to the conclusion yesterday that glass cockpits are not safer than conventional steam instruments. The study began more than a year ago to determine whether light fixed-wing aircraft equipped with glass cockpits such as the Garmin G1000 and Avidyne PFD4000 were actually safer, but the results found steam instruments have less of a fatality rate than the flat panel display systems.
The study, which looked at the accident rates of 8,000+ light piston-powered fixed-wing aircraft manufactured between 2002 and 2006, discovered that ones equipped with glass panel cockpits had a higher fatality rate then similar aircraft with conventional gauges. These accidents can be a number of things, such as the pilot had much faith in the autopilot system because it has never given a reason to mistrust or the pilot became distracted with another task, etc. If a pilot flies many different types of aircraft this can lead to a larger problem of proficiency of each, since each can vary greatly.
